In the not too distant future, after mankind has scorched and ruined the surface of the Earth through countless, terrible nuclear wars... we have learned nothing, except to adapt. Survival is only possible now underground, and any trips to the highly radioactive surface must be done with the aid of protective, lead-lined radiation suits.
Exposure on the surface, without a suit, means swift and certain death.
